Vismaya has become controversial recently because it is the movie which is the center of the #metoo allegations by Sruthi Hariharan against Arjun Sarja.
Vismaya was made in two languages, Tamil and Kannada. The Tamil version was called Nibunan. Story and cast was the same except for one role played by Jayaram Karthik in Kannada.
DSP Ranjith (Arjun Sarja) works in the Crime Branch and is famous for his crime solving skills. He and his core team use different and unique tactics to find and trap criminals. Ranjith is happily married to his wife played by Sruthi Hariharan and has a daughter and younger brother. He is going to retire in one year’s time and is already worried about giving up the field work and getting involved in office work as the future SP. Meanwhile, he has solved 99 cases and his team joke that he should get a tough and special case as his century case.
In this context, the police station one day receives a strange package containing a doll with an animal mask and hanging from a rope. Ranjith and his team decide to not give too much importance because there are no obvious clues. Ranjith’s boss tells him to pay special attention to 5 notorious criminals who always avoid jail using their political contacts and though Ranjith prefers the encounter method, he is advises to use a different tactic because of few open human rights cases against him.
A few days later a local leader who was protesting against a car plant coming up in the outskirts goes missing and the doll the police received becomes a clue. Ranjith’s 100th case becomes the toughest of his career as his personal life is also threatened…
